At the intersection of high art and low magic is a sacred space where the normal rules don’t apply, and anything is possible.
My name is Jack Grayle, and I’ve spent my life exploring this sacred space, searching for a way to re-enchant my mundane world with meaning and magic. Along the way, I was often told that magic wasn’t real – that it was at best an outdated fairy tale fit only for children, and at worst a sham to fleece the gullible. And I almost came to believe this was true.
But then my journey led me to Hekate, that mysterious and radiant titan of liminality; that torchbearer who illuminates all paths; that keykeeper who unlocks all gates; that gatekeeper who embodies the very thresholds that stand between who we are and who we were meant to be. Using the magical techniques in the PGM, I formed an alliance with Hekate, and saw my life immediately begin to improve. To honor her I wrote my book, The Hekataeon, which describes a complete system of self-initiation into her mysteries.
Since then, I’ve survived illness and grown stronger, paid off staggering amounts of debt and become richer; have shed loneliness to become friends with an array of beautiful and talented people; and – most importantly – have seen the veil of the mundane world lift to reveal the spirit-powers that rule each realm and illuminate every living thing. And through the power of that great mediatrix, Hekate, I have come into relation to these powers, to my everlasting benefit.
And I did this without having any special sort of blood or birthright or background. In the end it was easy, because I wasn’t doing the work: the spirits were. All I had to do was learn to engage them as allies. I could do that. Anyone can.
And so can you.
I now teach two online courses for The Blackthorne School – “Hail Hekate: Walking the Forked Path,” and “PGM Praxis: 50 Rites for 50 Nights.” These courses unlock the secret technologies of magic – now largely forgotten – that are found in the Greek Magical Papyri. In them, I present a system of spirituality that is beautiful, strange, and yet surprisingly intuitive; one that is steeped in the multicultural and multiracial crossroads that was Roman Egypt in late antiquity – an age with much in common with our own uncertain times.
I lead these courses to help others make the same spirit alliances I made, so that they can gain the same protection and power that I did – and re-enchant their world while doing so. Finally, these courses also serve as forums where serious practitioners of magic and esoterism can connect, make friends, and share their personal journeys with their peers.
